AI assistants (MCP)
Ask Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor about your consent data in plain words, through the Pactbase MCP server.
Ask your AI assistant questions like "Which of these 20 leads may I email about the October offer?" or "What did priya@example.in agree to?". The assistant answers from your consent ledger through MCP (Model Context Protocol), the standard way AI assistants connect to other tools.
- Server address:
https://mcp.pactbase.in/mcp - Access: read only. The assistant can look up purposes, collection points and consent decisions. It cannot record, change or withdraw consent.
There are two ways to connect:
| Way | For | Sign-in |
|---|---|---|
| In the browser | ChatGPT, claude.ai, Claude Desktop | Your Pactbase login (OAuth). No key |
| From the terminal | Claude Code and other developer tools | A Pactbase API key |
Connect in the browser (OAuth)
Only an admin of the organization, or a member whose team role can see Consent, can connect. A super admin account cannot connect.
ChatGPT (plans with developer mode, for example Plus, Pro or Business):
- Open Settings, then Apps & Connectors, then Advanced settings, and turn on Developer mode.
- Go back to Apps & Connectors and click Create to add a custom MCP server.
- Name it
Pactbase, pastehttps://mcp.pactbase.in/mcpas the URL, choose OAuth and click Create. - Click Connect and wait a few seconds. The Pactbase login page opens.
- Sign in. If you are already signed in as an admin, you go straight to the Authorize page.
- Check the app name and address, then click Allow.
- In a chat, turn on the Pactbase connector and ask your question.
claude.ai (also the Connectors screen of Claude Desktop and the mobile apps):
- Open Settings, then Connectors, then Add custom connector.
- Name it
Pactbase, pastehttps://mcp.pactbase.in/mcpand click Add. - Click Connect, sign in to Pactbase, check it says Claude, and click Allow.
- In a chat, ask "Which Pactbase organization am I connected to?".
The assistant reads with your access. It stops if your account is disabled, leaves the organization or loses Consent access. To disconnect, open Settings, then Connected apps in Pactbase.
Connect from the terminal (API key)
-
Create a key. In Pactbase, open Settings, then API keys, then New key. Choose Read only access, name it after the person and machine (for example
Claude Code – Priya's laptop), and copy the key. It starts withpb_live_and is shown only once. -
Add the server with one command (Claude Code):
claude mcp add --scope user --transport http pactbase https://mcp.pactbase.in/mcp \ --header "Authorization: Bearer pb_live_YOUR_KEY" -
Check it is connected:
claude mcp listpactbaseshould show as connected. -
Ask your question in Claude Code.
Treat the key like a password. Use one key per machine, keep it out of shared files and repositories, and revoke it under Settings, then API keys if a laptop is lost.
Other tools that support remote MCP servers with a custom header (Cursor, VS Code with GitHub Copilot, Windsurf, Gemini CLI, OpenAI Codex CLI, n8n) use the same address and the same Authorization: Bearer header in their MCP settings.
What you can ask
| Question | What the assistant checks |
|---|---|
| "May I email these people about the newsletter?" | Up to 25 emails for one purpose: granted, not granted, or never asked |
| "What did asha@acme.in agree to?" | Their latest decision for each purpose, when and where it was made, and the Consent ID |
| "Who said no to email marketing this week?" | The consent ledger, filtered by date, person, collection point, purpose, website or source |
| "What does our newsletter form ask?" | A collection point's purposes, wording, live notice version and languages |
| "Which purposes do we ask consent for?" | Every purpose, its type, lawful basis and whether it is active |
| "Which organization am I connected to?" | The organization, how you signed in and what the connection may do |
Only granted means consent. A refusal, a withdrawal and "never asked" all mean you do not have consent for that purpose.
Limits
- Read only. Consent is recorded only by the person, on your banner, forms, Manage my data page or through the API.
- Rate limit: 60 calls a minute per key by default. A long list is checked in batches of 25.
- On demand only. The assistant answers when someone asks. To stop emails automatically when consent is withdrawn, use webhooks.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| The Connect window never opens or times out | Wait a few seconds and click Connect again. Check that https://mcp.pactbase.in/health returns "status":"ok" |
| "Not allowed" after signing in | Sign in as an admin, or as a member whose team role can see Consent. Super admin accounts cannot connect |
claude mcp list shows pactbase as failed | Check the key is correct, active and read only, and that the header reads Authorization: Bearer pb_live_… |
| The assistant says it has no Pactbase tools | Turn on the Pactbase connector in the chat (ChatGPT), or start a new session after adding the server |
